We aim to study the occurrence and structural characteristics of specific protein species related to neurodegeneration. Hence, we have developed a semi-automated instrument to enable live-cell imaging, single-cell manipulation, and rapid lysis of single mammalian cells. It is compatible with standard adherent cell culturing methods.
A single cell is targeted with a platinum coated microcapillary electrode and lysed within milliseconds through a local electric field. The cell’s content is aspirated into the microcapillary electrode and deposited on different substrates, depending on the desired method of analysis.
